Ever wanted to backup your SU blog ? Noticed that the script provided by StrangeJ sadly doesn't work anymore in SU Beta ?

I used to leave the Beta group, disable the TabMixPlus Add-On, back up my blog, enable the TabMixPlus and rejoin the Beta group - and always cursed because it was such a botheration.

Then I discovered the Repagination Add-On.

Now all I do is right-click on the No. 2 page at the bottom of my blog, choose "Repagination", choose "All" and then go for a cup of coffee. Depending on the size of your blog it will take quite some time until all pages are assembled.

Just like in StrangeJ's script, the entire blog will be displayed on one page.

Now right-click anywhere, choose "Save Page As" and save it to your computer.

Now this is TRULY BIZARRE !

I saw this site first which is why I added it, but ThinkProgress carries the story too and the comments there are well worth reading !

Starbucks Dubbed "Slutbucks" by Christian Group

Starbucks re-introduced its 1971 brown-and-white logo that features a mermaid. "The Starbucks logo has a naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute," says Mark Dice, of a Christian group called The Resistance. "Need I say more? It's extremely poor taste, and the company might as well call themselves Slutbucks."

Today in History - 12.5.1941: Computer invented

Zuse built a two by two-meter monstrosity made of sheet metal parts, glass panels and program cylinders. A machine which was later called a "computer." He had sawed the metal parts himself, and did not receive any financial support.

The original was destroyed in the Second World War. A copy of the legendary Z1, as Zuse called it, is now in the Berlin Museum für Verkehr und Technik (Museum for transportation and technology). Götz Widiger, who maintains the machine, recognizes that it contains all the components that modern computers also have: the actual computer, memory and an output device.

"The whole thing is so impressive because it is a mechanical computer," says Widiger. "There are no relays. In 1937, transistors had not been dreamt of, and it is thus so big. At that time, Zuse built it in Kreuzberg in his parent's living room with a few friends and all the circuit elements are mechanical and made of pieces of sheet steel that slide against one another. Unfortunately, that was the reason why the Z1 was not fully functional, as these sheets jammed against one another. But, in principal, it is fully functional."

I just love such stories :-)

'Mobile' phone enjoys centenery

Invented by Nathan Stubblefield in 1908, the device came complete with an unwieldy metal transmitter.

A far cry from the tiny mobile phones in use today, the telephone was made up of a system of wire suspended between metal rods with the transmitter placed on a train carriage or boat.

When the vehicle neared, a signal was sent through the air to the telephone using magnetic fields. It could be heard near the other end of the wire through another phone.

Arthur C Clarke awards: a universe away from the Booker - Telegraph

A passionate and very well written praise for SF-literature. All too many people completely ignore the genre just because there ARE trashy SF-books. But so there are trashy "mainstream literature" books and - in my opinion - a large percentage.

Anyway - if you like books, read this article !

Arthur C Clarke awards: a universe away from the Booker

"A novel should not be ignored just because it's set near Saturn"

Want to meet learned and passionate readers? Go to the Arthur C Clarke awards for sci-fi, says Andrew McKie

At very few book awards do you find the door manned by stormtroopers. But in that regard, as in several others, science fiction is different. One obvious distinction between the Arthur C Clarke Award, for the best science fiction novel published in Britain the previous year, and the Man Booker is that a lot of people care, a lot.

Of course the authors do, and the publishers, and the agents. But they were not the only people at the cinema in Regent Street where this year's award was announced last week. There were (besides the people dressed as characters from Star Wars), as there would not have been at most book awards, the readers.
